Day 3- San Antonio

Day 3: San Antonio

Hello parents, it’s your favorite group, the Bashful’s!  This morning we woke up at 4:45 am and loaded our luggage up.  We were sitting on the bus ready to go by 5:30.  We were even four minutes early.... Dallas said that means we get 4 extra minutes to sleep in! As we left Fontainebleau State Park some of us resumed back to bed and others started talking to new friends.  After resting for 2 hours, we ate a delicious breakfast that included a variety BIG of muffins and an entire banana for each of us! Thank you cooks!!!  On the bus ride we sang a special "Birthday Hooray song"  to Madelyn Mclain who turned 17 today!

We traveled a total of 604 miles to the big city of San Antonio.   Around noon we began eating scrumptious subs before arriving into the city.  Halfway through today’s journey, our awesome bus driver JD was getting close to driving the and we needed a replacement driver. Dallas tricked some of us into thinking she would take the wheel, but Josh, the Trip 1 director, came and saved the day by driving us the rest of the way to San Antonio. Here we visited the Alamo where Autumn B. got to pet a wild Texas squirrel while walking through the gardens of the Alamo (pictures to come).  We also visited the Riverwalk, but before that we had several research presentations given by Amanda P, Ava G, Bailey M and Wyatt F. After the presentations, we went off in groups of our choice to explore and do a little bit of shopping.  We bashfuls personally thought that San Antonio was much more interesting and inviting than New Orleans. A bus poll showed that we were not the only ones who thought this about the two cities.

On the Riverwalk, Patrick I. and Athena R. walked into an ice cream shop where Athena proceeded to not know what an Icee was.  Patrick was appalled by Athena’s lack of knowledge about the difference between a slurpee, slushie, and icee. Then they walked into a small boutique and Athena ‘gracefully’ touched a rack of bracelets, which then toppled onto the floor. Patrick stepped up and become the group mom (surprisingly) by picking up the rack and making sure Athena made no more messes.

We met back at the Alamo and did a little vehicle changing and loaded up.  After everybody got situated and we were back on the highway, we started to head to Schreiner University.  The Happy’s were still cooking tonight and everyone enjoyed making their own pizza wraps.  As we were starting to eat, everyone was getting really thirsty but come to find out, we only had one jug of water.  Dallas rationed out her own jug of water to everyone on the bus giving them just enough to have a single sip.

We arrived at Schreiner University to be greeted by two students/summer interns who gave us information about the small college. After the dopey group finished unpacking the vehicles for the last time (in dry weather, finally!), we completed all of our daily duties before our second sing-along and chat in preparation for the Canyon hike. Since there were no competitions, the boys played a little bit of basketball and Frisbee while some of the girls were playing volleyball to pass the time before we went to bed inside (again! I know, we’re lucky) the gymnasium. Since we are all feeling very sleep deprived, we are trying to go to bed earlier tonight after our interesting communal shower experience.

We bring you sad news that today is our last day doing the blog for our wonderful audience.  We hope you have enjoyed these past few days that we have been blogging for you.
