Day 2- New Orleans

Day 2- New Orleans

HEY GUYS!! It’s day two and we’ve already been to/through five states (SC, GA, AL, MS, LA). After a restless night on the gym floor at LaGrange College, we all woke up at 5:45 to a welcoming “GOOD MORNING SUNSHINES” from Dallas. We attempted to quickly pack up our sleeping bags and pads, but we’ll hopefully get quicker by Day 23. The Dopey group packed up the bus and we were soon off to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. After a thirty-minute drive, we took a quick bus tour through the beautiful campus of AU. We stopped to take a group photo and were challenged to take a picture with a new friend. Straight from AU, we drove to Walmart for the cooks to prepare for a traveling breakfast and lunch. We had yummy (Great Value brand) “Poptarts” and a couple Cuties.

From there, we started off to New Orleans enduring a storm brought on by Hurricane Barry. Having to turn on our hazard lights and slow down to about 35 MPH was a little scary but our bus and van drivers got us through it like champions! Due to the heavy rain, the bus had to pull over due to a windshield wiper incident which delayed us a little bit. The bus ended up having to be turned off because there needed to be mechanical work done which resulted in no AC!  Although it was definitely not ideal, the riders were able to make the best of it because we were excited to still be able to go into New Orleans.  After we were situated, we finished off the drive to Bourbon Street. When we arrived, some of us waited on our world-famous beignets at Café du Monde while a few of the others enjoyed some free time sightseeing in the (literal) below sea-level city.

We also enjoyed research today from multiple different people where we learned all about Mississippi, Louisiana, Jackson Square, Bourbon Street and many more.

We met back at the bus at 5:00 pm and made our way (SAFELY) to the luxurious campsite at Fontainebleau State Park. During this ride, we rode vehicles based on our dwarf groups to plan and practice for our ‘Dixieland Delight’ dance competition tonight.

For dinner, the cooks made us a wonderful meal that consisted of the best spaghetti rivaling Chef Boyardee. This meal was in the running for one of the most bangin’ meals yet!! To top off dinner we had ice cream sandwiches for dessert. After dinner, we met as a group and finally completed our competition.  All the groups did amazing but the Sneezys took home the victory again tonight due to a well executed back-flip. None of the groups are ready for the comeback tomorrow from the Bashfuls J. To end the night off we got our TWB sportswear. YAY!!!!!!!!! We finished up the night with showers and comfy mattresses. Double YAY!!!!!

Signing off,
The Bashfuls
