Day 11- Highway 1

Day 11: Highway 1

Hello guys! It’s Sleepy gang again. I hope you guys aren’t tired of hearing from us yet. We were woken up at 5:30 this morning to the lovely view of the Pacific ocean, at our El Capitan campsite.  After slowly packing our supplies up, we began our journey for the day with a final destination of San Fransisco.

During the early morning, the cooks fed us croissants with Nutella or cookie butter and a healthy side of bananas. A few hours later, we came upon Highway 1.  This route was so scenic and picturesque it took our breath away.   As a surprise to the group, we pulled to the side of the road to look at the great TWB rock that sits in the Pacific. The first group who started this program in 1975 pulled over in this very same spot in order to take a minute to reflect and revitalize their spirits. While we were there, we had our second special moment of the trip and an emotional heart to heart conversation about what we have learned and things we have overcame on this trip. Several people got up and told their experiences that led them to this trip and how it has effected them. Many hugs and tears later, we climbed back onto our vehicles and continued further along the highway.

Shortly after the cooks served pizza wraps for lunch, we stopped in Monterey for a quick shop and snack spree. Some kids even ordered Johnny Rockets and got some burgers for the road. While others enjoyed a wonderful traveling meal of walking tacos on the bus. A walking taco is an ingenious way to eat tacos on the go because it involves putting Doritos in a bag and capping it off with all the traditional tacos toppings. We continued on until dusk when we arrived in San Fransisco.

We arrived at the church that is graciously providing us with shelter for the night at approximately 7:45. The lovely couple who has been welcoming TWB to this church for the past eight years answered our questions about the beautiful city that is San Francisco. Everone is so excited to have a roof over our heads at night instead of having to sleep outside. We have not slept inside since day three! Tonight we will think about the wonderful invention that is AC as we drift off into sleep.

We took a quick stop at Ragged Point to use the bathroom and take some photos.  The fog couldn't stop us from enjoying the views!
