Hello family, friends, and loved ones! It’s the Dopey gang again. Today we had the chance to sleep in until 7 a.m., but most of us were rudely awoken at 5 a.m. by the large numbers of ravens that were circling the campsite. Once awake we jumped at the chance to start getting ready for the long day we had planned ahead. Some people took showers while others put on their nice dresses and collared shirts for our day in Vegas. At eight in the morning, campers were greeted with a promising breakfast from the cooks. This breakfast consisted of two pancakes, one sausage, and two strawberries for each camper. This once delightful breakfast soon turned tragic when it was discovered that the cooks did not make enough pancakes for each camper. So if you were one of the unfortunate ones that didn’t get a pancake you got more strawberries or sausage.
After everyone was fed we soon went to work. The site managers, bus cleaners, bus packers, and dishwashers quickly cleaned the buses and campsite in preparation for our 9 a.m. departure to Las Vegas, Nevada. Once everyone had completed their duties for the morning, the counselors sat us down to have a little meeting. They talked about how respectful and how great of a group we are, but also about the areas that could use some improvement. After the meeting we loaded the bus and vans in our assigned groups to work on our chant for tomorrow's competition. The competition consists of making a chant that describes our TWB experience thus far.
After a while on the road we were given a lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, goldfish, cheese balls, chex mix, and cookies. Athough we were delighted to have such a selection, the cooks forgot to pack utensils so they had to improvise. They did this by providing everyone with a pretzel to spread their peanut butter and jelly on their bread. Soon after lunch we finally entered Nevada and were able to see the incredible site that is the Hoover Dam.
Once in Las Vegas, everyone gathered in Caeser’s Palace to take a group photo. Then we were let free to get in groups, of no less than six people, in order to tour the beautiful city that we were in. Most people went to experience their first In-n-Out burger. Others walked up and down the strip, went on rollercoasters, saw the skyline from the ferris wheel, and watched the breathtaking water show at the Bellagio. During the light show they played the song, “God Bless the U.S.A.” The song choice felt like fate due to it being one of our more popular, signature sing-a-long songs.
One group of ten were joined by Kent, one of our counselors. Kent was able to be the cause of a very memorable and amazing day. The group found a photo center and took a picture of all of us proposing to Kent; he was very embarrassed and delighted. Then they went into an empty chapel and took wedding photos. Eventually, Kent and the rest of his group walked one mile to a cheap restaurant that the counselors found online. The group was able to enjoy a very hefty meal for a very low price. In order to thank Kent for providing such an amazing day, the campers decided to pay for his meal! He was very thankful but it was the least we could do after such an amazing day.
