Day 5- Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

Day 5: Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

Hey guys it’s the Dopey’s again!  We had a long driving day today that started at six o’clock in the morning and on our way out we saw a beautiful New Mexico sunrise.

We had a wonderful traveling breakfast provided by the Grumpy’s. We had a choice of Frosted Flakes or Lucky Charms with grapes. After breakfast we took naps, had bracelet making sessions and sing-a-longs.

After driving a few more hours we arrived at the Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert. After looking at the amazing scenery, we all got off the bus and walked to the overlook to take pictures and listen to some research from Amanda P., Ethan M., and Makayla F. We then got back on the bus and headed toward the Grand Canyon. During this route, Luke unfortunately had a nosebleed but the girls came to the rescue and solved the problem with a tampon so that’s all good.

Once we were on the bus we had lunch also provided by the Grumpy’s. We had a choice of a chicken or roast beef wrap, goldfish and a cheese stick. Before we stopped for dinner we went through another time change today. This time changed caused us to gain another hour of riding time, which made the naps from earlier very crucial.

Before arriving at The Grand Canyon we stopped to gather hiking supplies and buy our own dinner for tonight. For dinner we had a choice of either a supermarket deli or McDonalds. To end the day we got to see the Grand Canyon in all it’s glory and let us tell you that it was absolutely stunning. All of us were so shocked to see it’s beauty and I’m pretty sure some of us shed a few tears. After that we headed back to the campsite to get ready for an early morning of hiking the Grand Canyon that starts at 4:45 am!

Tonight, we prepared our meals for the Canyon, which consists of peanut butter bagels and bananas for breakfast, and then peanut butter sandwiches, apples, granola bars, and jolly ranchers for our “lunch” inside the canyon.  Although it will be extremely early when we eat this “lunch”, we are doing so to ensure that we are refueling our bodies to the best of our abilities.  After preparing our food we got our stuff ready in our bags to take with us, such as water and Gatorade.

The campsite we are staying at has lots of trees, so we have made another Eno village. We are all very excited to go hiking tomorrow morning!

***PICTURES TO COME! There is very spotty service here in the Canyon so pictures will come later, but we wanted to go ahead and get todays post up for you all to see!!
