Day 10- LA and Hollywood

Day 10: LA and Hollywood

Hey y’all, it’s your sleepy group again here to update you on all things TWB.  Today, we were woken up at 6:15 am by Dallas and Grant. We got ready to head to Hollywood, CA and UCLA. We had a traveling breakfast of either chocolate or white powdered doughnut packets and apples.  We also had another birthday today – HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY CATHERINE!!!

Following breakfast, we first stopped at the Hollywood Bowl but couldn’t go fully in to the amphitheater because of a concert that they were setting up for.  After a group picture in front of the Hollywood Bowl sign we heard research from Madelyn M., Justin T., Harlee A., Athena R., Betsty B., Matt F., Autumn B., Bryson M., and Toula L.. Bryson and Toula were both challenged with Disneyland and had a face off on the best facts.  They both had some really awesome facts but Bryson pulled out the W with an extensive list of interesting and funny facts! After research we had a screaming competition to get our best fake fans for the Hollywood prank we play. We organize a fake celebrity siting at the famous Chinese Theatre and watch the madness unfold. When we arrived to this location, we soon realized how many tourists there were and were immediately getting our cameras ready. Our very own (counselor) Julia Andrews walked by with her ‘bodyguard’ (counselor John) and we created a scene to fool some tourists into believing she was an actual celebrity.  When asked about it, we made sure to keep the joke going as we told them she previously starred on Grey’s Anatomy and would be in the upcoming Star Wars movie coming out in December.  It was hilarious until a homeless lady got mad that Julia was trying to steal her thunder and claimed to be a famous You-Tuber.

After things had settled, we were free to get some shopping done, eat or do whatever we pleased. We regrouped around 11:30 am to get back on the bus to tour Sunset Blvd. After driving by Beverly Hills, Bel Air and other very popular areas nearby we arrived to UCLA. We walked up to the beautiful campus and had a picnic lunch made by our bashfuls. In this time we were able to sing as a whole group and fully celebrate Mary-Catherine’s Birthday!! Huge thank you to Mary Catherine’s Mom who was nice enough to send a delivery of Sprinkles cupcakes to UCLA for all of us to enjoy for her birthday.

After lunch, we got to do more shopping in the UCLA bookstore. Although it was on the pricier side, most of us found the sale rack or something within their price range. Around 2:30 pm, we met out front of UCLA’s famous mascot statue, the Bruin, where we heard more research from Amber C. about UCLA. Following the research, we took a group picture in front of the statue and headed back to the bus to leave and head to our next campsite. After a beautiful 2 hour drive and plenty of naps, we arrived at El Capitan State Beach.  Upon arrival, we set up camp, split up to do our responsibilities and enjoyed some beach time prior to having a delicious dinner of chicken alfredo, salad and bread.

To end the night, we had another sing along around a real campfire while the sun set.  It was truly memorable.  After the sing along, we enjoyed s’mores cooked on real sticks and then headed off to snuggle in our sleeping bags!

We can’t wait for Highway 1 and all its beautiful views.  Catch up soon!

Love and miss you all,
